Helping End Domestic Violence With Lipstick

My first introduction to domestic violence was about 25 years ago while working as a Family Law Paralegal.  A mother was attempting to help her daughter get a restraining order against the girl’s ex-boyfriend.  After the girl broke up with her boyfriend, he began stalking her.  The firm was unable to obtain a restraining order, because anti-stalking laws at that time did not exist in California.  (The first anti-stalking laws were enacted in California in 1990.)  A month later, the girl’s mother called the firm to tell us that her daughter was in the hospital in critical condition.  Shortly after leaving her daughter alone at the family residence to quickly go to the market, her daughter’s ex-boyfriend broke into the family residence and brutally beat the girl and attempted to kill her by  stabbing her multiple times in the head, neck, chest, arms and face.  Shortly upon returning home, the woman found her daughter in a puddle of blood.  It was a miracle that the girl was alive.  Fortunately, the girl’s ex-boyfriend was caught by the Police and went to jail.  However, the wounds and scars suffered by the girl both emotionally and physically have changed her forever.

Studies have found that when a woman relies solely on her husband’s income for financial support and does not have friends and family to help her get away from the abuser or does not have the skills or education to seek gainful employment, she will generally stay in the abusive relationship.

Throughout her life, Mary Kay Ash showed others how to live and how to give.
She gave hope to women who lacked opportunity, self-esteem and financial support. Now her legacy of love lives on through The Mary Kay Foundation, which she began in 1996.

The Mary Kay Foundation has a promotion starting September 16, 2011 through December 16, 2011 to help end domestic violence by donating $1 from each sale of the specially designed lipsticks.  There are three colors to choose from at $13 each, they are Give Hope, Give Dreams and Give Joy.

As a special incentive when all three lipsticks are purchased from my Mary Kay website, they will be shipped to you FREE with a special gift.  At check out please enter the code GIVING.  Click here to help make a difference.
